Keeping Your Flat or Home Secure

Whether you rent or own, simple actions can greatly reduce the risk of burglary.

🚪 Doors & Shared Entrances

Always lock your front door

Ensure communal doors close properly

Do not allow tailgating into shared buildings

🔑 Keys & Access

Do not leave spare keys outside

Report lost keys to your landlord immediately

💡 Lighting & Smart Devices

Use internal lights on timers when out

Video doorbells can help, but check landlord permission

Be mindful of neighbours’ privacy

Keep valuables away from windows

Avoid advertising absence online

Report suspicious behaviour early

👥 Community Safety

Get to know neighbours on your floor

Report issues via 101 or to building management
